1st Annual
Bake Off
The New Holland Farmers Market is excited to announce our first annual Bake-Off! Market offers all
kinds of wonderful locally-grown and produced items, so use your creativity to come-up with a recipe
that features one (or more) of these items, and start baking!
The Bake-Off will be held on August 29, 2009 during Market hours, rain or shine. Judges will award
first, second and third place prizes and ribbons to winners, followed by an auction/sale of all of the
entries. Proceeds will benefit the New Holland Food Bank.
Official Rules
1. You must be registered to enter. Download form here. Registrations are due by Wednesday,
August 26th
2. Adults may register for only one entry (Pie category). Children may enter an item in the Child
category and another item in the Pie category if desired.
3. Pie recipes must use at least one locally-grown/produced item sold at Market.
4. Entries cannot contain raw/uncooked eggs. Please be aware refrigeration will not be available
at the Market during judging, and the weather may be hot and humid.
5. Pies must be brought in a disposable 8”-9”pie pan. Children’s entry must be brought in a
disposable container. We cannot be responsible for the return of non-disposable containers.
6. Entries must be brought to basement of the New Holland United Methodist Church (120 W. Main
St) between 8:00 a.m. –8:30 a.m.
7. All entries become property of New Holland Farmers Market. Following judging, entries will
be sold/auctioned to the crowd. All proceeds will go to the New Holland Food Bank.
8. Prizes and ribbons will be awarded in each category as follows:
1st Place: $10.00
2nd Place: $5.00
3rd Place: $3.00
Judging Criteria
Pies will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Presentation/appearance
2. Filling (consistency, doneness, flavor, moistness, etc.)
3. Crust(color, flavor, texture, doneness, etc.)
4. Overall flavor/taste
5. Creativity/innovativeness in featuring a locally-grown/produced item sold at the Market
Child Category (dozen dessert bars/brownies/cookies) will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Presentation/appearance
2. Overall flavor/taste
3. Consistency/doneness/texture
4. Bonus points for creativity/innovativeness in featuring a locally-grown/produced item sold at the
Market
